Capturing a quiet, dusty kind of Australiana in a modern album cover.

Dial Emma are a newly-formed indie-rock band from Fremantle. They approached me with their single Is There Anybody Out There along with a series of rediscovered film photographs taken in the Great Southern region in the 80s.

To bring this single to the visual plane, I paired the uncovered film with custom typography that feels like notes scrawled on a shopping list, or on the back of a petrol receipt. The result is a visual identity that is brings a nostalgic warmth, memories of a quiet, dusty kind of Australiana.

What began as cover artwork for a one-off release soon became a broader exploration

What if this wasn't just a single, but the centrepiece of something larger? Pushing beyond the brief, I imagined a full-length album built around the same core feeling and extended the visual world to suit.

From single cover to imagined vinyl release, this project is a love letter to small bands with great potential and a nod to the power of design to make even a single moment feel like an era.
